Question:

World Cup Soccer affects gambling incomes of major casinos, especially in Macau. Revenue is down for the first time since 2010 in Macau and it is blamed on Soccer. It appears gamblers prefer to bet on World Cup Soccer than go to casinos and gamble on table games. This week’s Reader Poll asks the question . . . Do you follow World Cup Soccer and if so do you bet on it rather than go to casinos during the weeks of the games which conclude on July 13? What is your opinion? We want to hear from you. (See other Readers’ opinions below.)

Reader Poll Replies:

I am a football and hockey fan so soccer does not get my attention at all. Still coming to Vegas next week. Janet J. Los Angeles, CA

Soccer is ok to watch, but it is not important enough for me to stop going or change my betting in Las Vegas casinos. Fred Sawyer CA

I enjoy watching soccer on television, and i wager some on the games, but it does not keep me from going to local casinos or to Vegas. Michael S Phoenix AZ

It has no impact on whether we go to the casinos or not but I do think soccer has arrived as a sport in the U.S. I don't think here it is to the point that most people that gamble will stay out of casinos, in fact, I would imagine it will become similar to other betting arenas (like March Madness) where if embraced by Vegas it will increase gambling overall. Anna Page Lenexa, KS

I personally do not watch soccer, but can not imagine there even being a comparison between "watching" something and actually being part of live action gambling... Barb Gange Minot ND
