Question:

As described in this week’s IVLV newsletter, MGM continues expansion with a $350 million, 20,000-seat sports arena which is hopefully the new home for a proposed Las Vegas-based National Hockey League expansion franchise. This week’s Reader Poll asks the question is this project something you would visit when completed and do you think it will ever be home to an NHL team? What is your opinion? We want to hear from you. (See other Readers’ opinions below.)

las vegas Nevada will soon have a new areana at the new york new york casino hopefully for a new NHL team.

That would make me happy to have a professional team in Las Vegas, I love hockey. Robert J, Las Vegas, NV

Not sure why anyone would build an arena before they announce they have a team, but it is works it might prove to be a good item for las vegas. Not sure i will come to vegas just for a hockey game. Connie Edwards, CA

With money you can buy anything even a NHL franchise. I would not be interested in going to a game and interest may be high for a while but don't think it will last. It was tried in Houston and ultimately failed. Believe NHL is best left to Northern states and struggles in the South where outdoor sports thrive. Susan Wooderson Sweeny / Texas

Casino's can play by different rules since they have so much money. I think they might get a team, but that doesnt mean they will get searson tickets sold year after year. Mark S. Miami Florida

This has to be a sham or a 3 Card Monte. They are building it under the guise of a NHL expansion, when their true intent has to be a NBA expansion. Mark my words, I give them less than 10 years to get it accomplished. Howard Indianapolis, IN

he arena for the Pittsburgh Penquins is only a few years old. I do believe the NHL will expand to Las Vegas. Thus I would like to visit the newest state of the art arena there to see the differences. And also to see the Penguins play the new Las Vegas hockey team. Paul Wandeck Pittsburgh, PA

I would love a nhl team in Las Vegas. I would definitely go to a few games. I'll be moving there from Chicago in a few months. I look forward to cheering for another team besides he Blackhawks. Scott Schneider Buffalo Grove, Illinois

Sports arenas can offer a varied list of attractions in addition to hockey. Even if we only get a farm team for another franchise, I would attend professional or even semi-professional hockey in the new arena. Brian Steiner Marshalltown

I do think it could be the home of an NHL team. I do not think it would be something I would put on my Vegas itinerary however. Sherry Schooley Garden City MI
