An 8.7-mile urban light rail route using Maryland Parkway was unveiled this week in hopes to build a system transporting people from Terminal 1 of McCarran Airport down Maryland Parkway to downtown Las Vega and then to the future home of UNLV medical school. This week’s Reader Poll asks the question . . . would a light rail system be good for Las Vegas using the Las Vegas Strip or Maryland Parkway or just continue using fast buses as used in other cities? We want to hear from you. What is your opinion? (See other Readers’ opinions below.)

buses and light rail are the hot topics of las vegas.

I feel any system to help relieve the stree on the streets of Las Vegas is a good thing. Jane Woods AZ

A bad idea. This is another way to burn up half a billion dollars and not serve the popular area of the city. David Harris San Francisco CA

Love the idea of light rail! We have the option in Minneapolis and it is great to take to an event where you don't have to worry about parking issues or taking the bus. So much quicker then the bus also! Dawn Schlauderaff Minneapolis, MN

It would depend on exactly where in/at the Terminal the pick-up point would be and what Downtown locations would be serviced. At present it's rather difficult to bus from the Airport. A service originating there and intended for transporting luggage as well as passengers would be extremely helpful. Boston uses such a shuttle only special buses from Logan to the nearest subway station for connections to downtown. L A Graham Lynn, MA

I don't know if it's possible, but a dedicated lane for buses and taxis would really move people up and down the Strip. I don't know how many times it has taken an hour or more to travel from say the Stratosphere to Bally's on a busy night. Bob Krupinski Rockville, Maryland
