Question:

This weekend the 3-day Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) rave is being held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That means approximately 200,000 attendees for the 3-day event. This event was moved from the California location after a death of a drug overdose spurred the search for a new location. Even though Metro Police have beefed up the drug enforcement and even narcotic dogs being used as the rave patrons enter the event this brings us to this week’s Reader Poll question . . . Is this the type of convention / event Las Vegas needs to help rebuild the economy of the city?  What is your opinion?  We want to hear from you! (See other readers opinions below.)

Reader Poll Replies:

I feel the city needs a lot of money to replace from the poor economy but I not sure this is the answer.  The final decision for me is when it is over and what problems arised from the event.   Mary G.  Las Vegas, NV

From a personal standpoint....my opinion is Hey, each to their own. If this is your type of thing, then enjoy.  From a business viewpoint....I don't believe this event will pour money
into the Las Vegas economy. It is likely the majority of those attending will be young, from the area and not have a great deal of disposable income. Much of the available income will be spent on party favors of the illegal variety and this speedway is associated with family events such as NASCAR races.  Wendy Wessing  Rochester, IL

Let em bring more drugs into Vegas, maybe the police force might stumble across them and arrest a few of these people.   Then the court system can fine them and hopefully they can consficate a car or two also.   Roger Taos NM

Gambling, alcohol, outcall services,... I don't think that the EDC will tarnish Las Vegas' image.  Don Cavanaugh  Gaylord/MI

Those type of events are not for me.  Gene Thompson  FL

No way would you get me to go to an open air event with 100,000 of my not closest friends.  Connie  Fort Worth TX

I think it might be fun, but the traffic would be a negative for me, not the event.  James Sawyer

My friends and I are coming for the EDC and hopefully it will be as fun as the years we attended in California.  Let the good times begin.  Mark   Seattle WA
