Nevada is proud to have another great National Wildlife Refuge
and when they develop this area it is destined to be a great asset to the community.
Covering 34-acreas of Mojave Desert, the refuge covered with palm trees, spring heads and
associated outflow channels and aquatic habitats.
The Moapa Valley Refuge is home
to the endangered Moapa dace. Unique to the Warm Springs area of northern Clark County,
Nevada, Moapa dace is found on this small Wildlife Refuge. They perfectly suit their
outlet streams leading to the Moapa River for their existence. They are thermal endemics,
(they originated in the warm, isolated waters) and are adapted to their particular living
conditions of those regions. Cold water acts as a natural barrier, keeping them from
moving away from their original habitat.
