| A wonderful natural oasis in the
Desert is only 90-miles northwest of Las Vegas in Amargosa Valley. Covering more
than 22,000 acres of spring-fed wetlands and alkaline desert uplands, Ash Meadows has
become a very interesting National Wildlife Refuge in the desert.
More than twenty plants and animals are
exclusive to the wildlife refuge. Some of these are found on the endangered list.
Environmental extremes range from
Sand dunes, to ash tree groves, to wetlands all in one desert environment. This may
not be the most highly publicized attraction around Las Vegas, but it may be one of the
most interesting!
Directions:
Travel 15 miles south on State Route 373 from Amargosa Junction to
Spring Meadow Road, then turn east 5 miles to refuge headquarters.
