Reader Poll Replies:

I feel gun control is needed since we have so many crimes where guns are used. I like this idea. Cindy D Las Vegas, NV

In a way it makes me feel uneasy having more government control over citizens, however, I am tired of every crazy obtaining guns as easy as it is to buy potatoe chips, so I vote Yes. M. Cline Boulder City, NV

I do not like any more control from government, NO. David Walker Chicago, Illinois

Any measure that requires thorough background checks on those wishing to purchase firearms is vital to the safety of the public. I live in Mass. and we have very strict gun laws that I would like to see adopted nationally. If you hunt you only need a hunting rifle or small caliber gun. No one needs semi-authomatic weapons or worse AKA rifles unless they are military or public safety. Jo Ann Cathcart North Attleboro, MA

I see nothing wrong with people being responsible and making sure they are selling guns to responsible people. Sometimes we may have to give up a little bit of freedom for a lot of protection from those who can do harm without recourse. Helen Scott, Detroit, MI

Put all the people with guns in one state and let them shoot it out. Soon they will find that leaving in fear of what someone else can do with a gun is not fun. William L. Dayton, OH

I am not a fan of normal citizens owning guns under any circumstances.   Keith S. Portland, OR
