This coming St. Patrick’s Day might have a surprise you were not expecting. According to Las Vegas Police, the Metro police will be conducting DUI checkpoints on the east side of the Las Vegas Valley. Obviously, we all want safety and drunks not driving, but do you think this is a good image for Las Vegas to portray to visitors on this holiday weekend? The checkpoint will be in force from 4p until 1a. What is your opinion? We want to hear from you. (See other readers’ opinions below.)

I feel it is probably in best intreest to the city and the visitors, but i hope they dont get to excited about giving out tickets and arrests. Vegas doesnt need to upset more visitors. Janice M.

Yes! I don't think visitors go to Vegas to drink and drive. I know I don't! carrol tapper Hanover, MD John S.

Yes, checkpoints not only catch drunk drivers, but it also discourages drivers from driving drunk for fear of being caught. If this saves one life, it is worth it. This will not negatively affect Las Vegas Image. Shirley Coker Philadelphia

Ok I agree we dont want people driving while drunk, but it depends on how strict they get in their arrests. Alcohol is part of vegas for years and not sure you can enforce it harshly without reprocations. Dale L. Los Angeles CA

Doesnt matter to me, I gave up drinking years ago, didnt have enough money to gamble and drink. Lawrence H. San Diego CA

Good idea if we understand a little police tollerance. Janet Smith Portland OR

Drinking doesnt bother me as much as those people with the marijuana cards and if they drive. Gloria Robinson Washington
