In 2006, Las Vegas was the worse city with the highest rate of car thefts per 100,000 residents. The 2011 results have just been released and now Las Vegas is rated #19. Great job Metro Police. This week’s Reader Poll asks the question . . . How safe do you feel about crime in Las Vegas?  What is your opinion? We want to hear from you!  (See other readers’ opinions below.)

Reader Poll Replies:

I have been visiting vegas for more than 34 years and I think that Metro police do an excellent job of protecting tourists.  James Woody

Visiting Las Vegas is a lot safer than living in Los Angeles.  I had my car stolen twice in the past 15 years.  M. T.  Los Angeles, CA

I have visited Vegas over one dozen times in the past 12 years and have never seen one single crime.I did see someone try to rob an old lady but it was thwarted quickly. I believe Vegas to be one of the safest cities in the USA!   Mr. Carrol Tapper  Hanover, MD

I feel as safe in Las Vegas as I do in any other city. One has to be smart and not try to be "flashy" no matter where they live or travel - do not flaunt large wads of cash or expensive cash. We live in an economically strapped world - no need to put temptation in front of others who are less fortunate than ourselves.  Kathryn Verboomen  Appleton/WI

I feel relatively safe most of the time. I would like to see more of a police presence on the walk ways over the strip. There are alot of panhandlers especially at Bally's to Bill's. I think downtown is much improved even though I wouldn't go to far off Fremont.  Scott H.
Schneider  Buffalo Grove, IL

Honestly, I have always felt safe in Las Vegas. Every year we go at least 5 times and every time, we use our common sense. No place is perfect and no place is absolutely 100% safe. What matters is how one deals with situations, how one thinks before getting into those "risky" "unsafe" situations or places and the willingness to report a crime that
was seen or committed. Crime is evident everywhere, but it's up to individuals to stop it, report it and avoid it!   Rebecca Guzman  Edinburg, TX
