Question:
Las Vegas is blessed to have two major automobile races visit the 24-hour city over the next two
months. NASCAR will hold their event on February 29 - March 2 and NHRA will take over the Las
Vegas Motor Speedway on April 10-13. This week’s Reader Poll asks the question . . . If you
could attend either the NASCAR, stock car oval race or the NHRA drag race, which would
you prefer to attend, if either? Why or Why not? What is your opinion? We want to hear from you! |

My preference is to see NASCAR. I love
watching it on television and to be able to see it live in Vegas would
be a double treat. Donna G. TX
As an auto enthusiast, what a question. While both are
equally exciting, I would have to choose the NHRA Drag race. The pure
excitement of quarter mile racing, the sounds and the smell of alcohol
fuel. Speeds of over 300 mph. Las Vegas's own Hot Rod Fuller in top
fuel. John Force and team in funny car. Greg Anderson and the other pro
stock drivers and the motorcycles. I could go on forever. If I had a
chance to be there for Qualifing and Finals it would be the best 2 days
in Vegas ever. Chuck Merica Omaha, NE
My choice would be NHRA, nothing better than 300+ miles per hour and
noise so loud it hurts your chest. Bring on the speed and thrills.
Daniel Z. Chicago, IL
My preference would be to attend the drag races for
several reasons. First, I am a believer in getting to the point.
Repetition bores me. In the drag race, the lights flash green and five
or six seconds later, you have a winner. Another reason to attend the
drag race would be to honor the drag queens in Vegas, where there is
perhaps less stigma than anywhere else, except for maybe New Orleans.
Finally, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.
That's DRAG. Dave Mouldon St. Louis, MO
NHRA. I Would be there to see V. Gains race. Besides, I like the roar of drags.
Kathy Rupppel Westminister, CO
I personally prefer NASCAR, mainly because I follow this
circuit. I think Vegas would draw more visitors for Nascar as well.
Eddie Schulz Urbana,OH
I am a huge NHRA fan, and would like to visit every
major event in the nation.I have been to the strip, but have not
actually seen a race. For NASCAR, I would go if given tickets, but would
not pay for them. Drag racing is pure horsepower, NASCAR is going around
in a circle for a couple of hours until you get sick. To be able to take
in the nitromethane, hobknob with the drivers, and shake a hand or two,
that's my idea of the makings of a good weekend in Vegas.
Brian Howard Thornton, Colo
Thsi will be my 9th year of attending the NASCAR race in Vegas. It is normally the only NASCAR
race I attend. In 1999 it cost around $500, now it is $1200. May be my last race for me. Can't
chalk it all up to inflation. I will stay in Indiana and go to the Brickyard. Larry Doll Winamac, IN
I would prefer the NHRA event over the NASCAR because
you can get plenty of NASCAR on TV but the coverage of NHRA events is
so-so. Also, there is more action in the same amount of time involved in
the events. Bob Smith Shelby, NC
"NASCAR" NASCAR has 42 cars out on the track at the same time all
going at very high speeds. The drivers have to endure many different
track & weather conditions during the season. Drivers know there is a
great possibility of being envolved in a wreck during the race but still
get out there each weeked & race their hearts out for their fans.
Nora Parker Calhoun, Louisiana
We would love to attend the NASCAR race but we have
heard of horror stories of traffic and the crowds so probally never will
get the chance. Barbara Knick Normal Illinois
