The under construction Smith Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Las Vegas received more publicity this week with a $5 million dollar donation by Elaine Wynn. The $502 million dollar project hopefully will bring more cultural events to Las Vegas and is expected to open in approximately 2 years. This brings us to this week’s Reader Poll question. Not all downtown Las Vegas projects attract customers as much as their developers anticipate. Once completed, is the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Las Vegas a place you would visit ever, often, sometimes or never?  Why or Why not?  What is your opinion? We want to hear from you!   (see other opinions below)

Reader Poll Replies:

I dont come to Vegas for a cultural event or play, i want to gamble and that is all.  Maybe a drink or two also.   Randall   Houston TX

I might go once and see the building, but it will not be a regular place for me to visit.  Sandy  Miami FL

Even though I enjoy Broadway Plays, Symphony and several other quality events, when coming to Las Vegas i have no desire to spend time away from casinos and into museums or cultural complexes.  T. Harris   New York, NY

I'm delighted the Smith Center is being built downtown. There's already so much to do and see in downtown Las Vegas, e.g., the Fremont Street Experience, our favorite restaurant in town, Hugo's Cellar, not to mention going from one casino to another without walking a mile in between. Absolutely, we will go to downtown Las Vegas to see and attend functions at the new Smith Center. It will be a wonderful treat for locals and visitors.  Betty Barrett  Sunnyvale, CA

It makes no difference to me, I only visit Las Vegas twice a year and I spend all my time inside the Bellagio.  Robert Walker

Makes no difference to me, dont plan on visiting any cultural places in vegas.  Ron S.
