The every four-year opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics is only a few days away and this brings us to this week’s Reader Poll question. Do you think the sports books in Las Vegas casinos should be allowed to accept wagers on the Olympic events or team outcomes? What is your opinion? We want to hear from you!

Reader Poll Replies:

I think casinos should be allowed to wager on anything that is legal.  Bob Harris

My fear would be some athletes might be tempted to bet against themselves if the money was large enough. So I dont think allowing gambling on ameature events is good.  Betty C.  New York.

No. The Olympics are for amateurs and as such should remain pure and away from speculators. The Sportsbooks can always have a go at the Professionals and that's the way it should be. Samuel Chen Deckerville, MI

 Absolutely!   Jeanette  Denver/CO

yes.  john hogan  Owasso, OK

sure! betting on the olympics can be new and unpredictable. bet on the fun stuff like how many medals will a country win or how many mistakes there will be during an event. the worst teams....the wierd things that can happen....leave it to vegas, they will come up with fun things to bet on other than a simple win or loss.  theresa holden  zion il

Yes, sports books should be allowed to accept wagers on Olympic events, or any events in life. Live and let live. Eric Rowley Las Vegas

Yes I do think Las Vegas should be allowed to make bets on the Olympic games.Bets are already being made all over the world on the games. If someone who can and wants to make a large bet, can't do it in this country, they will go elsewhere. Another way mony is spend Outside of this country. We need to keep as much of our money in this country where it can go back into the system for jobs good and US groth.  Stephen  Sedalia MO
