Simply Sammy! - Doug Starks
Doug Starks wears the title of
Mr. Entertainment with ease. The multi-talented Starks
pulverizes audiences with his remarkably haunting impersonation
of the original Mr. Entertainment, the late great Sammy Davis
Jr., in the Greek Isles' "The Tribute to Frank, Sammy, Joey &
Dean."
At the tender age of six, Doug
Starks was performing in front of anyone who would look - and
sometimes even when no one was looking! Bitten by the show-biz
bug at a young age, Starks always knew that he was born for the
stage, and at seven years old, Starks found his true calling.
After seeing Sammy Davis Jr. perform live, Starks knew that, one
day, he would be entertaining audiences just like him. Sixteen
years later, with a lot of hard work and determination, his
dream as a young boy became a reality. Desiring to do "all
things Sammy," Starks immersed himself in a variety of classes
including tap dancing, gun twirling and acting, excelling in
every area.
Garnering a menu of talents,
including a voice as smooth as Johnny Mathis, a grace like Gene
Kelly, a comedic styling comparable to the likes of Eddie Murphy
or Robin Williams, and impersonations that make Rich Little take
a second look, every time Starks hit the stage he had audiences
jumping to their feet. Add to the above Starks ability to play a
plethora of instruments, including piano, harmonica and drums;
and it's easy to see why Starks is the ultimate entertainer.
Starks' talents quickly made him
a sought-after artist, and he soon found himself headlining top
comedy clubs all over the country and performing everywhere from
Radio City Music Hall in New York to the main stage of the MGM
Grand in Las Vegas. Starks also appeared on both the small and
silver screens, including the 1994 feature "Fear of a Black
Hat," the first film ever to sellout in the midnight showing
slot at the Cannes Film Festival. Starks also performed as the
opening act for many of the industry's top entertainers, among
them, Julio Iglesias, Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston and Ray
Charles. In addition to his highly acclaimed stage performances,
Starks was instrumental in helping to launch the tremendously
successful nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, and
dominated the radio airwaves himself with his many characters,
including The Reverend Brother Pastor Deacon Doctor Doug and
Uncle Buddy, during his own nationally syndicated comedy show
for 13 years.
Now residing in Las Vegas, Starks
has been regularly paying tribute to his beloved personal friend
and mentor, the legendary Sammy Davis Jr. Starks' dead-on
performance and remarkable physical resemblance to Davis Jr. has
been captivating Vegas audiences for years. |
